Saxon Entrance Gate.
The Saxon gate is constructed from long lasting coppiced chestnut combining woven chestnut lathes with hand spilt vertical pales.
Its framework retains the rustic exterior of the timber.
Why a Chestnut Gate?
All our gates are made from durable sweet chestnut similar to oak yet more stable. It does not require chemical treatment to prolong its life and naturally blends to a silver appearance. and utilises mortice and tenon joints for rigidity.
The timber for our gates is harvested from chestnut coppice which requires felling to maintain the health of the coppice. By using the timber for our gates this provides an outlet for the larger stems not useful for many of the traditional products due to its ‘over size’, thus helping to maintain woodlands in the south east of England.
Timber used is carefully selected, planed and chamfered to create a first class finish. Chestnut can also take stains and oils to prolong its natural colour.
